G2 Consulting Group, LLC, works side-by-side with Anderson, Eckstein, and Westrick, Inc., on the City of Livonia Street Repair program. This is part of a 10-year renewal millage approved in 2012. The Department of Public Works evaluates the condition of the City’s roads based on a PASER rating and divides the work into three categories: reconstruction, rehabilitation, or maintenance. During construction season, G2 Consulting’s Construction Engineering team works on multiple streets everyday evaluating subgrade preparation, aggregate base placement, and concrete / asphalt paving operations. Each of our construction engineering technicians and staff engineers are fully qualified with appropriate certifications to perform required field and laboratory tests.

Dozens of streets in the City of Livonia are being reconstructed, rehabilitated, or maintained under the Street Repair program. Multiple, concurrent monitoring and testing of sites occurs requiring coordination and communication among contractors, technicians, and the owner.

“Quality of Life” improves with Downtown Fenton Streetscape project

Fenton, Michigan

G2 Consulting Group was part of the construction team that earned two industry awards for its work on the Downtown Fenton Streetscape project. Downtown Fenton wanted to retain its historical charm while offering modern shopping, dining and lifestyle experiences. The city sought to improve portions of its streetscape along South Leroy Street and make significant enhancements to the downtown area, including work on the water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, roadway pavement and sidewalks that are now ADA compliant. As a result, there is an improved quality of life for residents and visitors to Fenton.

G2 was recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers Southeast Michigan with the “James F. Biskey, P.E. Quality of Life Project of the Year” in 2017. The Michigan Concrete Association recognized the team in its “Municipal Flatwork” category.

Challenges / Solutions

Working in a downtown environment requires coordinating with city officials and contractors to maximize safety and work efficiently.

G2 encountered challenging soil conditions during the road reconstruction project and worked with OHM Advisors and Eastlund Concrete Construction to ensure the City of Fenton’s geotechnical engineering requirements were met during the design phase. G2 worked closely with Champagne & Marx, general contractor, to monitor construction quality while maintaining the overall project schedule.

G2 developed an economical solution to challenging soil conditions and performed construction testing to meet City requirements while maintaining the overall project schedule.

Evergreen Road Gets a Makeover

It’s Orange Barrel season again in Michigan. Like most municipalities, the City of Southfield, MI, got to work reconstructing its main roads. Its a tight timeline to get it all done before winter hits, however, G2 Consulting Group prides itself  in Smart. Results. Fast.

In 2017, G2 Consulting Group provided materials testing services for the concrete reconstruction of Evergreen Road from 9 Mile Road to the Northwestern Highway Service Drive.  Florence Cement Company, working as a subcontractor for Dan’s Excavating, Inc., placed approximately 8,000 cubic yards of grade P1 Modified concrete as pavement with integral curb for the project.  Services were provided for OHM Advisors and the City of Southfield.
